Elshan Ghasimi

tar

(*1981 in Isfahan, Iran) is a master of the Persian long-necked lute Tar and the classical Persian art music, composer, performance-artist and educator. She works in the meeting spaces between tradition and modernity, West and East, music and other art forms.

Ghasimi's approach is essentially influenced by tradition and practice of Radif, the repertoire of classical Persian music, which is conveyed through years of deepening and internalization and which she reinterprets as the first female musician in a large-scale project.

She lives since 2016 in Germany, where, in addition to appearing as a soloist, she composes and plays music with ensembles such as Concerto Köln and Ensemble Extrakte. She also shares her knowledge within the framework of teaching positions such as recently at the University of Marburg.
